This is a collection of my family photos. I will tell you who these people are, as best I can. Feel free to comment with anything you can add to the family history. And to start off with, that’s me up there, David McCarthy, in the kitchen in Lyons, Oregon, where I got my start.
Hi. My name is Markku Salovaara. I am living in Helsinki, Finland. My grandma was Signe Salovaara (born Westersund). Signe was a daughter of Carl August Westersund. Signes brothers moved to Oregon. So most propably we are relatives.
Thanks for this. I’ll forward your message to my cousins who know that side of the family the best.
Hi, what a surprise to stumble across this website. My name is Kathy Wehr and Hazel Hilson Wehr Houle was my grandmother. It was wonderful to see the picture of the Hilson clan – I had never seen a picture of my great grandmother and the entire Hilson family. I know very little about both sides of my family so it was wonderful to find these pictures. You never know what you will find when you randomly google someone’s name, in this case – “Fred Houle”. You may already know that my grandmother married Ed Houle (Fred and Dorcas’s father) in the seventies. Ed’s first wife May was Hazel’s niece and they were about the same age and were great friends (I’ve been told). Thank you for posting the pictures – it was wonderful to see them.
Thank you! I need to go back and remind myself of those connections.
Kathy, I am Fred Houle & I just found this site. I have some pictures that have Hazel & the rest of the family, when she and my mother were young.
My e-mail is fhoule45@gmail.com & also on facebook
Please send a thanks and a hello to Barbara for the Hilson family photos. My mother’s maiden name is Wylie – wonder if they too are distantly related. My mother’s family is from New York. She said she does not see many Wylies with the same spelling.
I will! I dont recall much about Bob Wylie’s origins prior to he and Margaret following my Dad’s family to Oregon. Barbara should be able to shed some light.
you musta been a beautiful baby… 😉
☺️
Hi, I’m Alejandro from Argentina. First I want to congratulate you on the quantity and quality of your family photos. Wonderful memories superbly preserved. I ask you if you did the transfer to digital and what equipment did you use to achieve such magnificent quality. I have my family file with thousands of photos and I would very much like to do it like you. Thank you very much for your answer if possible.
Thanks Alejandro. I’ve been using an Epson 4490 Photo flat bed scanner that scans prints and slides (transparencies). There are probably newer and faster scanners available now. If the photos don’t need much touching up I’ve found that lower resolution is fine and doesn’t take much time. If you look back through my posts you’ll find lots of stories from relatives that has made this project much more than just the photographs! My grandfather was a bookkeeper/ auditor and his 2000 slides are all neatly cataloged. The boxes of prints I’ve inherited from him and from my parents are not as well documented so there was a lot of questions for other relatives, “who recognizes these people?”. Now that I’m retired I need to find time to continue this project!
Please let me know if you have any more questions! Best of luck with your family photos
